It was during a trip to Paris in the very early 1960s that the Castiglioni brothers, Achille and Pier Giacomo, noticed something in the city's architecture that gave them the most wonderful idea. Some of the city's street lamps were giving off light from above and directing it downwards. This without being a ceiling light but having a base on the ground. So, why not create an indoor lamp offering the same features?

A lamp with a shade that can be positioned over the dining table, desk or work surface while not needing to constantly move it. Add a large flexible stainless steel bow. This is attached to a solid and heavy marble base, allowing it to remain stable. 1962, all these elements assembled form the lamp of which the Castiglioni saw in dream for months.
