This edition of the Eames Card Game by Art of Play pays homage to The Little Toy, a miniature version of the famous The Toy. Unlike its predecessor, which was large enough for people to play "inside", Charles and Ray Eames designed this model in 1952 for children and adults to play "with". The game aimed to encourage creative construction through a series of colourful panels, wires and connectors, helping to stimulate imagination and creativity.
For this edition of playing cards, elements from The Little Toy have been ingeniously integrated into the design to create a minimalist numbering system, where small connectors serve as visual cues for quick reference of the cards. The simple, clean aesthetic pays homage to the Eameses’ creative and functional spirit, while bringing a modern and playful twist to the classic card game.
The cards are presented in a letterpress printed slipcase, using sustainable paper and vegetable dyes, in line with a concern for ethical and environmentally friendly production. The design of this slipcase recalls the famous Eames House, an iconic place where Charles and Ray not only lived but also created some of their most influential works. This architectural nod evokes the close connection between their daily lives and their creative process.
Made in the USA, this card game embodies the spirit of the Eameses: a blend of simplicity, functionality, and beauty. Perfect for lovers of design, games, and history, this special edition is a tribute to the iconic couple's innovative vision, while offering a unique and refined playing experience.
